Be Still Devotional: Day 9

Devotion for Thursday February 20
Liana Fairbanks | Business Administration Director
Scripture
Deuteronomy 1:30
The LORD your God who goes before you will himself fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes.
Devotional Thought
Moses and the Israelites have been on a journey through the wilderness. The Israelites managed to turn an eleven-day camping trek (Deuteronomy 1:2) into a forty-year trial. Now, they were just east of the Jordan River, preparing to finally take the Promised Land. The book of Deuteronomy is Moses taking one last opportunity to remind Israel of where they have been and how they are to behave in the land that God is about to give them. After they sent twelve men to spy out the land, and the reports came back spurring doubt, Moses assured the people that the Lord would fight for them, just as He had done when He freed them from Egypt. They had already seen His hand at work on their behalf—multiple times. The good news is that this time they would trust God, and He would lead them through many victories as they took the land.
Don’t we struggle like Israel? We see God’s provision over and over, yet we just can’t help ourselves: we take control instead of trusting God. He is so patient with us, repeatedly showing Himself to us. We can trust Him.
Reflection Questions
Suggested prayer/action step
Lord, show me where I am not trusting You, and give me the courage to lay it at Your feet—and leave it there.

Reflection Questions
- Are there things in your life that you aren’t trusting to be in God’s hands?
- Are there things in your life that you give over to God but then take back from time to time?
Suggested prayer/action step
Lord, show me where I am not trusting You, and give me the courage to lay it at Your feet—and leave it there.
