Be Still Devotional: Day 24

Devotion for Thursday March 13
Tim Yeager | Student Pastor
Scripture
Isaiah 42:13
The LORD goes out like a mighty man, like a man of war he stirs up his zeal; he cries out, he shouts aloud, he shows himself mighty against his foes.
Devotional Thought
There is a quote by A.W. Tozer that has stuck with me over the years. He said, "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." What Tozer means is what you think about God shapes your identity and your activity. So, what comes to mind when you think about God?
For examples in the Bible,
These are important identity metaphors from God’s Word that give peace to our reality!
Here in Isaiah 42:13, we see God as a mighty Warrior. What does that mean for us?
God is at war, fighting for us and fighting alongside us. Yes, you are a sheep. Yes, you are a child of God. Yes, you abide in the vine. But you are also a soldier, and we are living in a battle.
What’s the good news for you and for me? We fight from a position of victory! So, take heart and trust God. He goes out like a mighty warrior and is mighty to save. No obstacle in human society can stand in His way. Let that encourage your spirit today!
Reflection Questions
Suggested prayer/action step
Pray that you may live for the purposes of God this day, contending for the truth, and doing it with love.

For examples in the Bible,
- we know God as Shepherd in Psalm 23,
- we know God as Father in the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9, and
- we know God as Gardener in John 15.
These are important identity metaphors from God’s Word that give peace to our reality!

Reflection Questions
- Which metaphor used to describe God in the Bible do you most view God as?
- How does the metaphor of God as Warrior—which also makes you a soldier— change how you may view or practice your faith?
Suggested prayer/action step
Pray that you may live for the purposes of God this day, contending for the truth, and doing it with love.
