A Note from Pastor Roger

Dear Church Family,

Prayer is one of the most powerful things we can do as followers of Jesus. We are called to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6). We’re told that God hears us (Jeremiah 29:12), that He’s near us (Psalm 145:18), and that even the Holy Spirit “intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words” (Romans 8:26). Our thoughts and ceaseless prayers continue toward those in central Texas, to the families and communities feeling the weight of this tragedy, and even to those who have felt it here in Houston and in our own church family.

On Monday, we provided links to resources if you feel led to help, if you or someone needs counseling, and how to talk to your children about it. One of those resources is Texas On Mission, who currently have chaplains sitting with families in Kerrville. If you would like to help in other ways, here are two more links:

Please prayerfully consider how you can contribute to helping these grieving families.
To reiterate above, prayer is powerful, and we covet your prayers for additional mission work that our students are undertaking in Belize at the moment as well as for a trip we are taking to South Africa today.

If you were with us Sunday in worship, you saw a video with me and Mary Ann Bridgwater from Pray the Word Ministries. Rynie Badenhorst, David Glenn, Mark Edworthy, Aaron Senseman, and I are deploying to South Africa to train church leaders. I asked Mary Ann to help provide us prayer coverage, and she wrote a prayer guide that we handed out on Sunday.

Mary Ann and I also sat down to converse about using the prayer guide and how she is inviting us to pray. You can find that conversation below:
Mary Ann will host a prayer gathering for this trip this Sunday, July 13 from 4-5P in our West U Baptist campus Chapel. Please join others in praying for missions and in particular this trip we are on as we serve church leaders in Africa.
Prayer is powerful, Church Family. Let us never stop praying to our Father.

Stay Expectant,
Pastor Roger

PS. We will return to our normal worship schedules this Sunday.
