Be Still Devotional: Day 16

Devotion for Monday March 3

Scripture
Psalm 37:5
Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.
Devotional Thought
Have you ever done things your own way but they didn’t turn out exactly how you had planned? You knew there was probably a better way (like praying to God for direction), yet you felt like your way was better, that it was going to give you the satisfaction you wanted.
In life, we have many decisions to make. Some are small and easy, others are more important and significant. It could be a decision about a relationship, a job, raising children, school, work, etc. The easy, less significant decisions may not really make a life-changing impact. However, the bigger decisions could. When we wander in life, set on our own course, our own path, it can be filled with twists and turns, ups and down, a lack of peace and stability. Fear, pride, and selfishness can also play a part when we take our own path. We focus on ourselves instead of others or—more importantly—less on God.
However, when we commit our ways to the Lord, He will act, as it says in Psalm 37:5. The word “commit” in Hebrew is galal which means “to roll away” or “roll onto.” It implies placing your burdens and plans onto the Lord. In other words, trusting your life path and decisions to God. When we commit our ways to the Lord, we give him complete and total control of our lives, trusting and acknowledging His wisdom over our own.
Committing your ways to the Lord can only be done if you have a strong and faithful relationship with Him. You can’t trust someone you don’t know. Unless you trust in the Lord with all your heart, you will not be able to commit your ways to Him.
Reflection Questions
Suggested prayer/action step
Memorize Psalm 37:5 and ask God what you need to let go of so that you can commit more to His ways than to your own.

- Do you need to spend more time with the Lord so that you can trust Him more?
Suggested prayer/action step
Memorize Psalm 37:5 and ask God what you need to let go of so that you can commit more to His ways than to your own.
