A Note from Pastor Roger

Dear Church Family,

I am thankful that our church extends a sabbatical to me each summer for a two week period. Each year, I have used this time a bit differently. This year, I’ll be working through Pathways: The Road Ahead to a New Century of Ministry. I am so excited about this opportunity for our church. As we near our 100th birthday in 2028, I see all of our campuses renewed and stronger than ever. Last night, we gathered a team who is serving as a Focus Group to help us with key decisions on our West U Baptist sanctuary. This group is a great cross section of those in attendance at our West U Baptist campus, and I am thankful for their commitment to helping us get the design for these renovations just right.
This Memorial Day weekend, we want to also stop and recognize those who have paid the ultimate price by laying down their lives for our freedom. Memorial Day was originally Decoration Day, and it was started soon after the Civil War by General John A. Logan, a Northern Civil War Veteran. He advocated for a national day of remembrance, saying, “The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land.” (Memorial Day 2025: Facts, Meaning & Traditions)

Through the short history of our nation, thousands of men and women of nearly every generation have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we might be a free, self-governed people. May we remember those who have fallen and thank God for the liberty their blood has secured!
We have much to be thankful for and much for which we should continue to pray about. Please for our nation this Memorial Day weekend, and if you are in town, exercise your religious liberty and join us for worship at one of our services.

Stay Expectant,
Pastor Roger
