Be Still Devotional: Day 5

Devotion for Friday February 14
by Greyson Landrum | Student Associate
Scripture
Isaiah 54:17
No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD and their vindication from me, declares the LORD.
Devotional Thought
In the blockbuster movie Avengers: Endgame, we see those left of Earth’s mightiest heroes facing an impossible task. Thanos, an immortal alien warrior, is using the magical Infinity Gauntlet to wipe out half of all life in the universe. With Thanos’s vast and terrifying army, it seems like victory is out of reach for our heroes.
Sometimes our life can feel like that battle. We may not be fighting giant, purple aliens, but we are facing weapons of a different kind. The enemy attacks us with doubt, fear, judgement, temptation. So often in our lives, these forces feel overwhelming and insurmountable.
But Isaiah reminds us that “no weapon that is fashioned against [us] shall succeed.” Notice he doesn’t write that weapons won’t ever form, nor does he say they won’t ever come our way. But he does say that no weapon shall succeed.
When we “trust in the Lord and in the strength of his might” (Ephesians 6:10), He fights our battles for us. The Lord gives us everything we need to stand firm, to overcome, and to refute tongues that rise in judgement. God is our defender and our fortress, and we can trust in Him to keep His promises.
Reflection Questions
Suggested prayer/action step
Identify two to three weapons that are being used against you. Write them down on a notecard. Any time you see one of these weapons coming your way, pray that God would fight it for you.

- What weapons do you feel are being formed against you right now?
- How does knowing that “no weapon shall succeed” change the way you face them?
- Where have you seen God vindicate you in your battles?
