Be Still Devotional: Day 27

Devotion for Tuesday March 18
Emma Straub | Kids Administrative Assistant
Scripture
2 Chronicles 20:17
“You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the Lord on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.” Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, and the LORD will be with you.
Devotional Thought
In 2 Chronicles 20:17, a powerful message is delivered to King Jehoshaphat along with the people of Judah: "You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the Lord on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.' Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, and the Lord will be with you."
The people of Judah are instilled with fear and uncertainty of what is to come, but they are reminded through this message that, above all else, God’s promise is clear, that He is the one who fights for us.
God calls us to “stand firm,” not to run, and not to try and take the battle on our own. We are to trust in Him. Sometimes in life, we think we have to fight, but really what God wants is for us to stand in faith and realize that whatever happens is in His control.
Throughout our lives, we will have many battles—health wise, financial, spiritual, etc. When that happens, we need to look back to this verse’s meaning; Trust in Him. We don’t have to face our battles alone because He will go to battle for us. Stand strong in his promises, and in time He will deliver. The battle is God’s, not yours. God is with us.
Reflection Questions
Suggested prayer/action step
Try not to take matters into your own hands with fear or despair but choose to stand firm in your trust in God. Throughout the week, pray and worship knowing God will guide you through any challenges you face.
