Serving Our City - At the Ballot Box and Beyond

Dear Church Family,

Our vision at CityRise is to lift our city and world by generously giving the gospel of Jesus Christ. God planted us in this great city—first in West University place nearly a century ago, then into Bellaire, then Missouri City—and He keeps opening doors for us to serve. One simple way we can bless our neighbors next week is at the voting booth on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4.

Scripture calls us to love our community well. We are to seek the good of our city (Jeremiah 29:7), pray for our leaders (1 Timothy 2:1–2), be ready for good works and model public virtue (Titus 3:1–2), pursue justice, mercy, and humility (Micah 6:8), and prize wise counsel and character in leadership (Proverbs 11:14; Exodus 18:21).

So, with guidance from the Spirit, let’s show up and steward our civic responsibilities on Tuesday. Click here for voting schedules, a sample ballot, and more for Election Day.

Speaking of our city and communities, we had a blast at the Fall Carnival on Friday at CityRise West U Baptist! Here’s how Kids Executive Director Jennifer Dennis described the night:

“It was a joy to welcome close to 575 people on our campus this past weekend for the Fall Festival. There were kids everywhere enjoying the costume contests, bounce houses, cupcake walk, and even a pie eating contest! We love having the opportunity to visit with families and welcome new faces to join us for worship and community groups. A huge thanks to the CityRise staff and everyone who volunteered to make such a fantastic event!”

You can see pictures of the fun further below. And we get to do it again in Missouri City this Saturday, November 1! CityRise Missouri City’s Fall Festival will give the month of November a festive start as we move toward end-of-the-year holidays, parties, and celebrations.

Carnival games, food, a bouncy house, and more—all free.
One more thing, Church Family: Jamaica and Cuba were struck by a devastating, historic hurricane this week. We have served many times in Cuba—and we were planning on going this week before the hurricane changed that. Please take a moment to pray for comfort, protection, and swift help for those in need. May the love and presence of Christ be clear even in the midst of loss and disaster.

We’ll see you this weekend, Church Family.

Stay Expectant,
Pastor Roger
