From the Pastor: Sabbatical and Crosspoint Construction Update

Mary Ellen Ermis July 7, 2023 Devotionals, cityrise, Deep and Wide, houston, Lift, Roger Patterson,

Good afternoon, Church Family!

This past week, we began the next phase in studying the book of 1 Timothy with our current series, “Lift: 7 Principles to Drive Change,” and we will continue doing so this weekend, taking a look at 1 Timothy 2:8-15. If you are unable to join us in person, you’re welcome to be with us online during one of our livestreamed services through our CityRise app, on our livestreams page, or at youtube.com/cityriseorg.

Also starting this week, I am on my annual, two-week sabbatical. I joyfully anticipate this time each year; it’s a stretch of time set aside for rest, renewal, reading, and writing. This year, I’ll be working on this fall’s study entitled “Great: 40 Days of Commission” in which we’ll dive into the Great Commission. I’m looking forward with great expectation to how God is going to guide me in this study and more while I’m away.

Crosspoint Construction – Latest Update

I’ve asked Crosspoint Church – Bellaire Campus Pastor Chris DeArman if he could give us an update to the construction at Crosspoint. Here’s the latest!

“Thanks, Roger! The Loft is looking incredible. It’s nearing completion and should be ready to use in the next week. The carpet is in along with coverbase and trim. The LVT flooring in the common areas is installed and looks beautiful. The new LED lighting is installed and is a huge improvement over our previous fluorescents fixtures. We are currently awaiting the ceiling and technology installations. Once we have that, we are ready to go!

The Education Building is also coming along nicely. The 3rd floor is currently framed for offices and Community Group rooms. The 2nd floor is also framed and ready for our CityRise kids ministry and its Community Group rooms and KidRally spaces.

Thanks for your prayers and generosity that is moving the project forward to help us continue to lift our city with the gospel!”

Honduras Mission Trip

As I have the Great Commission on my mind, I have our latest mission trips on my mind, too. We just had a team return from Honduras after spending a week there providing VBS for 476 and medical/dental care for 344. The gospel was shared across both, and 39 adult medical patients were moved to salvation in Jesus! Our CityRise Missions Pastor, Chuck Oak, is thankful for all the hard work and for your prayers and support through the Deep & Wide Generosity Initiative.

What an incredible impact the gospel had on those kids, adults, and on the team.

Additionally, please keep the following trips in your prayers:

  • Our Student ministry is in Belize right now with high school students, this week leading VBS and next week running a sports camp in the same place.
  • We have a team leaving today for the Dominican Republic who will be doing various mission work.
  • In a couple of weeks, we will have a team travel to Ireland to revitalize four churches.
  • At the end of the month, a team will care for children while their parents attend all-day meetings at a conference in Krakow.
The Lord is always moving, both here and abroad, and in so many different ways. I’m grateful to be able to experience it with you.

Have a great weekend, Church Family!
