Freedom

CityRise July 3, 2020 E-newsletter, Updates, freedom, independence day,

Tomorrow is our country’s 244th birthday. I am proud to be called an American citizen, to be living in a country in which people are free. While our country provides us many liberties, none compare to the freedom we experience through a relationship with our Lord.

On that topic, for today’s post I’d like to direct you to a short article/devotional that the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association posted earlier this week on Monday, June 29. It’s called “4 Things the Bible Says About Freedom.” It is a fantastic and succinct read that I hope you take time to study today. The author clearly lays out the concept of freedom and liberty as it pertains to our creation, to our humanity, to our choice, and to Jesus. It’s quite timely and appropriate; I hope you read it today in earnest.

If you missed my Weekly Update this past Wednesday, you can catch it here. In it, I note that this coming Sunday, July 5, we will have one service in the morning at both campuses:

  • 8:30am only at West U Baptist (remember that this is our traditional-style service), and
  • 11:00am only at Crosspoint Church-Bellaire;
  • Our Spanish-speaking service will remain meeting at 1:30pm at Crosspoint

If you can’t make it to one of these in person or choose to attend at home, join us online as normal! We will stick to our Online Experience rotation on YouTube at 8:30am (Traditional), 9:30am, 11:00am, 1:30pm (Spanish), and 2:00pm (Chinese).

Furthermore, in the last half of the Weekly Update video, I aim to bring you some encouragement in the middle of our social climate. We can be so easily swept under the waters of social media and the media at large, by pundits and politicians, and be consumed by the hundreds, even thousands of noxious voices all around us. To be honest, my ears and scrolling finger are tired. Amid everything, we can choose to pause and ask ourselves this question: what voice are we really listening to? Just like with the Billy Graham devotional above, I encourage you to take a few moments and watch the Weekly Update for July 1 to hear some of how God’s been guiding me lately.

I hope you have a fun and safe Fourth of July weekend, Church Family. We’ll see you on Sunday morning. God bless you, and God bless America.
