Science, Faith, and a LOT of VBS

CityRise August 7, 2020 E-newsletter, dr. james tour, faith, Roger Patterson, science,

Let me tell you: August is going to be the busiest month we’ve had in a while, and one of the most exciting! I hope you’re ready for it!

First, we have a regular Virtual VBS-palooza happening for just about every age group: VBS for preschool and elementary kids anytime, VBX for middle school students begins next week on Monday, and Senior Adult VBS hits the week of August 17! Next, we have another Blood Drive set for the end of the month at our Crosspoint Church-Bellaire campus on August 21 and 22.

And last but certainly not least is what will happen every Monday night this month. In just a few nights, August Apologetics returns! We’ve changed the format slightly. This year, we are helping to launch a fascinating new venture, something that I’ve been saying is one of the most significant things we’ve ever been a part of in our church’s history. August Apologetics is helping premiere The Science & Faith Podcast with Dr. James Tour on Monday night, August 10 at 7pm on YouTube.

Why is this so significant? First, many, many, many people and students across the entire world believe that there is no connection between science and faith. But there is. Dr. James Tour, a resolute believer, a member of our church, and one of the world’s prominent active chemists and nanotechnologists at Rice University, has a desire to lead people to Christ through science. In this podcast, Dr. Tour will interview fellow scientists, touching on the fields of genetics, chemistry, mathematics, and more while talking about faith in Jesus Christ.

Here’s Dr. Tour himself to give you a little more insight into this new hard-hitting podcast.

Monday’s first episode features fellow Christian scientist Dr. Joshua Swamidass, a physician and professor at Washington University in Saint Louis. He’s also the author of The Genealogical Adam and Eve. The rest of the month will feature Dr. Stephen Meyer, Dr. Henry Schaefer, and Dr. John Lennox (who visited our West U Baptist stage a few years ago).

I encourage you to watch, perhaps even organize a watch party! Click over to our August Apologetics page where you can find links to watch and setup notifications as well as to be a part of future recordings.*

The topics in these episodes are important to discuss in our unbelieving world. Even if the content is way over your head. I know that these enriching Science & Faith episodes will help you grow in your Christian maturity. That’s what we’ve been studying in our current sermon series called “No Filter” about the New Testament book of James. Join us this Sunday on campus or online for Part 5 as we keep working our way through this hard-hitting book. If you missed any previous weeks, these messages are just a click away on our CityRise YouTube channel.

Have a wonderful weekend, Church Family! We’ll see you on Sunday morning, and we can’t wait for you to learn from The Science & Faith Podcast with Dr. James Tour when Monday night comes.
